WHAT WE BELIEVE AT LIGHTHOUSE

WE BELIEVE THAT:

  • THE BIBLE: The entire Bible is the accurate and inspired Word of God. It is absolute truth without error.
  • GOD: There is one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit - equal in power and authority, though serving different functions. God the Father is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, unchanging, Holy, trustworthy, loving, compassionate, faithful and good. Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He became flesh to reveal God to us, lived without sin, died on the cross, was raised from the dead to defeat sin and death and is coming again. The Holy Spirit reveals Truth and our need for a Savior, Jesus Christ. God promises never to leave or abandon us and guides and gives us comfort, wisdom, strength, hope and help through the Holy Spirit.
  • ALL HAVE SINNED: All people are created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him, but because of sinful disobedience, all are born with a sinful, rebellious nature that separates us from relationship with God.
  • SALVATION: God loves us and wants to be in relationship with us for eternity. He sent His only Son to pay the price of forgiveness for our sin. Salvation only occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is a gift from God and it cannot be earned through our efforts of self-improvement or good works.

  • ETERNAL LIFE: People were created to exist forever. We believe in everlasting life with God for those who choose to receive the free gift of forgiveness through Jesus and everlasting separation from God for those who choose to remain in sin.
  • TRANSFORMATION IN CHRIST: Jesus loves us even in our deepest sin. He came into the world to free us from our old patterns of sin and to make us a new creation so that we can enjoy abundant life in Him. This journey of transformation occurs through the power of the Holy Spirit, who lives in everyone who believes in Jesus Christ, empowering them to live a godly life, understand spiritual truth, know the will of God and develop the character of God - the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithful, gentleness and self-control).
  • THE CHURCH: The church is the body of Christ, made up of those who have faith in Jesus. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and loving others. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the Church is here to proclaim the gospel, meet the needs of the poor and afflicted, bind up the brokenhearted, loose the chains of injustice, set the captive free and break the cycle of sin.
  • MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION: First and foremost, God wants an intimate relationship with each of us. When we confess our wrong doing, God forgives us and reconciles us back to Him and offers the opportunity for forgiveness, restoration and reconciliation in our relationships.
  • PURPOSE: God has a good plan and purpose for our lives. He gives us abundant life even in the midst of our troubles and turns all things to good for those who love Him.
