DONOR BILL OF RIGHTS

<< RETURN TO DONATION PAGE
Lighthouse Family Ministries Northwest, referred to either as Lighthouse or LHFM in the remainder of this document, is a non-profit organization 501(c)(3). It is only through the generous donations from those who share in our mission that allow us to break the cycle of abuse one relationship at a time and to help those who have been hurt by domestic violence.

We are most grateful for our donors’ support and are committed to the highest standard of stewardship and protection of our donors’ rights which are to:

  • Be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  • Be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  • Have access to the organization's annual financial statements.
  • Be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  • Receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.
  • Be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  • Expect that all relationships with individuals representing other organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  • Be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  • Have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that LHFM may use to send out regarding LHFM updates, newsletters or fundraising events.
  • Feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

What This Means

We value our donors’ trust and we will always strive to be responsible in our management, truthful in our advertising and cost-effective in all financial management and fundraising efforts. This Donor Rights and Privacy Policy was developed to guide our staff, board and volunteers on how they may and may not use donors’ personal information.

We maintain the highest level of respect for the privacy of our donors. LHFM will never sell, trade or share donors’ private information with other organizations or those outside of our office. We do not retain donor credit, debit or bank account information.
Online donations may be made safely through the LHFM website using PayPal. We use security measures to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of data used by our online system. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site.

We use personal information collected from donors for the purposes of processing donations, sending receipts for donors’ tax records, thanking donors for their gifts, announcements of upcoming fundraising events and ministry updates. Data is kept for internal record keeping and reporting to applicable government agencies as required by law. Collected information may include name, amount/items donated, address, telephone number, email addresses and any other personal information provided to us.

Upon request, LHFM will inform donors of what information has been kept on file and will revise any incorrect information.

Upon a person’s (or a person’s authorized representative’s) request that LHFM discontinue further contacts, the person’s name and address will be promptly removed from LHFM’s database or modified to insure that no further contact is made with the person.

LHFM will maintain a permanent record of all requests by persons who indicate to LHFM that they do not wish to be contacted by or on behalf of LHFM. The records of persons who have made such a request will be maintained by LHFM only to the extent necessary for legal or liability purposes.
